VFW Conference to be     Streamed Live

March 6-10, on the VFW website at www.vfw.org. Streaming will begin with the Voice of Democracy Parade of Winners at 6:00 p.m. (EST) on March 7. A delayed stream of VFW Commander-in-Chief, Thomas Tradewell's testimony on Capitol Hill will also air the afternoon of Tuesday, March 9. In addition to streaming the segments live, all events will also be available on demand on the VFW website. Remembering Memorial Day

Several years ago, Mike Esmond, Americanism chairman of American Legion Post 378 in Gulf Breeze, Fla., and his fellow Legionnaires began a letter-writing campaign to encourage Wal-Mart and other companies to stop selling fireworks on Memorial Day. On Nov. 19, 2009, Wal-Mart's senior manager of executive communications sent American Legion Post 378 a letter that caused applause from veterans nationwide. The letter stated that beginning in 2010, Wal-Mart stores in the United States will discontinue the sale of fireworks until after Memorial Day.

VFW National Home for Children

Established in 1925, the National Home was created as a home for the dependants of war veterans and has grown to encompass families in crisis. Since its founding, more than 2,000 families have been served.          
         
Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of VFW and Ladies Auxiliary whose parents are deceased, disabled, or need assistance providing care. Children are served from birth to young adult status through a variety of programs, including Nursery, Residential, Single Parent Family, Military Family Program, Veteran Family Program and Aftercare Programs.

The new list of 15 illnesses now recognized under VA's "presumption" rule are:

• Acute and Subacute Transient Peripheral Neuropathy
• AL Amyloidosis
• Chloracne
• Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
• Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2)
• Hairy Cell Leukemia
• Hodgkin's Disease
• Ischemic Heart Disease
• Multiple Myeloma
• Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Porphyria Cutanea Tarda
• Prostate Cancer
• Respiratory Cancers
• Soft Tissue Sarcoma (other than Osteosarcoma, Chondrosarcoma, Kaposi's sarcoma, or Mesothelioma)
