October is Depression Awareness Month, which draws attention to the first step in getting well: taking a free anonymous screening. The following websites and telephone numbers provide free screenings.

Some signs of depression can include sadness, a loss of interest in things you once enjoyed, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, restlessness, withdrawing from friends and family, trouble concentrating or making decisions, physical aches and pains, irritability, anxiety, over-eating or loss of appetite, and thoughts of suicide or death. Depression, even the most severe cases, is a highly treatable disorder
